The Thunder Bay Police Service has arrested a man in relation to a hit-and-run motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian that claimed the life of a 25-year-old man.

Officers, EMS, and fire services were dispatched to the Simpson Street and Pruden Street area just before midnight on Thursday.

Emergency services located an injured man who was transported to hospital with serious injuries that were considered life-threatening, and on Saturday it was announced that the victim had unfortunately succumbed to those injuries.

The driver involved in the collision had fled the scene before the arrival of officers.

As a result of the continued investigation, a suspect was identified. Officers located and arrested the suspect, and seized the involved vehicle.

A 58-year-old man from Thunder Bay has been charged with failure to stop at an accident resulting in death.

The accused appeared in court on Saturday and has since been released with conditions and a future court appearance date.
