‘Technical issue’ prompts NBCC Saint John lockdown

A false alarm caused by a “technical issue” led to a heavy police presence at the New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) campus in Saint John.

Saint John police said they responded to the Grandview Avenue campus on Friday morning to investigate a “panic alarm.”

Students and staff at the school received an alert telling them to go into lockdown, according to the college.

“No threat has been identified. Officers are searching the campus,” police said in a social media post around 11:40 a.m. Friday.

Shortly after noon, police provided an update confirming it was a false alarm and that normal operations had resumed.

In a statement, NBCC said the lockdown alert was the result of a “technical issue” and there was no threat.

“We want to assure everyone that the situation has been resolved,” said a social media post from NBCC.
