A man from Woodstock is facing a slew of charges after allegedly trying to stab two RCMP officers.

Mounties said they received a request for assistance from the Woodstock Police Force on Monday evening.

They were told that a man wanted on five outstanding warrants was heading toward Perth-Andover.

“Police located the man in the passenger seat of a vehicle at a business on Connell Street in Woodstock, and attempted to contain the vehicle,” RCMP said in a news release.

“The man then threatened the driver with a weapon, attempting to encourage the driver to flee.”

When officers tried to remove the passenger from the vehicle, police said he grabbed a knife and tried to stab them.

The driver got out of the vehicle and the man jumped into the driver’s seat, leading police on a pursuit.

“The vehicle eventually got away from police, but was located a short time later in Perth-Andover, abandoned on a dead-end street,” said the release.

Police Dog Services later located the driver, who Mounties said was arrested without further incident. Officers searched the vehicle and seized weapons and stolen mail.

A 30-year-old man is facing 11 charges, including:

  • Two counts of assault on a police officer with a weapon
  • Robbery
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of stolen property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Theft from mail under $5,000
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Flight from police
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Resisting / obstructing a police officer
  • Breach of a release order

Police said two officers suffered minor injuries during the incident.
