Wong unsure how international student cap will impact N.S.

How will a cap on international students affect our province?

Advanced Education Minister Brian Wong says they need more information from the federal government.

“For us to fully understand and get a better grasp on what’s going to happen for Nova Scotia, it’s important that we sit down with the federal government and try to figure out those impacts,” said Wong after cabinet meetings.

Last week, the Trudeau government announced a 35 per cent cap on new student visas over the next two years.

Wong says they need to understand the allocation for Nova Scotia.

“Impacts will be different for every school, so it’s too early to speculate on that. It’s difficult to define if it’s even going to be a problem.”

He added it’s important to strike a good balance with what the allocation will be, and what’s right for the province.

No word on when the meeting with the feds will take place.
