Premier to deliver State of the Province address

By Brad Perry Jan 25, 2024 | 6:43 AM

Premier Blaine Higgs will deliver what could be his final State of the Province address on Thursday night.

Now into its 50th year, the event is a chance for the premier to highlight the province’s accomplishments and future direction.

This year’s address comes about nine months before New Brunswickers are scheduled to head the polls in October.

Liberal leader Susan Holt said the speech should be a chance for the government to take stock of what is working and where improvements must be made for residents.

“Unfortunately, we’re expecting to see more patting themselves on the back, while New Brunswickers struggle to find a family doctor, a long-term care bed for their loved one, or an affordable, accessible place to call home,” Holt said leading up to the event.

The State of the Province will be broadcast on Rogers tv and YouTube starting at around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
