Snowmobile theft leads to charges in Red Lake

One individual is facing numerous charges after allegedly stealing a motorized snow vehicle in the Municipality of Red Lake.

Early in the morning on January 22, members of the  Ontario Provincial Police responded to an address on Pine Crescent in Red Lake following the theft of a snow vehicle.

A short time later, the accused was located on Highway 105 near Young Street and was subsequently placed under arrest.

Through investigation, it was determined that the individual had been impaired by drugs leading to officers seizing several suspected illicit substances including cocaine, crack cocaine, and fentanyl. Items associated with drug trafficking were also seized.

As a result, a 33-years-old from Timmins has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code, Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and Motorized Snow Vehicle Act with:
• Theft Over $5,000 of a Motor Vehicle
• Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid
• Operation While Prohibited
• Drive Motorized Snow Vehicle While Licence Suspended

The accused is in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Red Lake at a later date.
