d’Entremont calls Emergencies Act ruling a ‘victory’

By Kevin Northup Jan 24, 2024 | 12:29 PM

A Conservative MP says the Emergencies Act ruling is a victory.

A federal court determined the Liberals’ use of the act to stop the Freedom Convoy in 2022 was unjustified.

West Nova’s Chris d’Entremont says his party held the stance that other measures should have been used.

“We’re going to see what happens over the next little bit, and how the government is going to try and attack it once again, and lie their way through it,” said d’Entremont.

d’Entremont says the government tries to discredit and undermine those who are politically against them, and the ruling validates the fact that the Act should have never been used.

The Liberals are planning to challenge the federal ruling.

Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said they disagree with the court’s assessment.

“I would just like to take a moment to remind Canadians of how serious the situation was in our country. When we took that decision, the public safety of Canadians was under threat. Our national security, which includes our national economic security, was under threat. It was a hard decision to take. We took it very seriously,” says Freeland.

“After a lot of hard work, after a lot of careful deliberation, we were convinced at the time, I was convinced at the time, it was the right thing to do. It was the necessary thing to do. I remain, and we remain convinced of that.”
