New school in East Chezzetcook delayed until November

By Caitlin Snow Jan 24, 2024 | 1:29 PM

A big disappointment for some families in East Chezzetcook.

Construction on Eastern Shore Consolidated School has been delayed and is now expected to be completed by November, instead of the original timeframe of September.

MLA for Eastern Shore, Kent Smith, shared the update from the school board on social media.

HRCE says the Department of Public Works contributes the delay to things like shortages of material, equipment and skilled labour.

Once the building is ready, the new Grade 7 to 12 school will be open in early 2025. It will have the capacity of 650-725 students.

It is replacing Gaetzbrook Junior High and Eastern Shore District High School, which currently have a combined student enrolment of 602.
