Sherbrooke Public Library to expand free Wi-Fi services to downtown area

By Caitlin Snow Jan 24, 2024 | 10:43 AM

The downtown area in Sherbrooke is about to get a free Wi-Fi zone around Main Street.

The Eastern Counties Regional Library says they have received a Library Development Fund grant from the Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage (CCTH), to cover the cost of the technology to help them boost the coverage area that the Wi-Fi from the Sherbrooke Public Library reaches.

It’s a project that came from ongoing discussions between the library and the municipality to improve service for the community.

Municipality of St Mary’s Warden Greg Wier said, “It’s exciting for us to support the library and see it deliver new and innovative services. Libraries have always been about sharing information. This modern information service will provide important daily benefits to the community and all persons in the Sherbrooke Downtown. It’s an exciting development!”
