Six storey apartment buildings proposed for Riverview

More proposed housing for the Town of Riverview.

Planner Kirk Brewer presented a rezoning application to Town Council this week for the corner of Pine Glen and Whitepine Roads, on the former site of Public Works.

“The town has been looking for a purchaser for the property for redevelopment for some time now. There has been remediation work carried out on the site. There is now an interested developer who has come forward with a proposal for three, six-storey multi-unit residential buildings.”

The buildings would have 125 units each, and a 225-surface parking lot with 303 underground parking spaces.

Land rezoning is required from a parks, recreation, and institutional zone to a commercial-mix zone.

If passed, the developer is expected to begin construction as soon as it can.

“We haven’t seen many of these larger scale residential developments, but as six stories have become the new norm regionally, we are anticipating to be looking at more commercial mixed zoning to allow higher heights,” Brewer adds.

A public hearing is planned for April 8, with further readings of the bylaw scheduled for Town Council meetings in the coming months.
