Thunder Bay’s Deputy Fire Chief David Paxton was appointed Chief of Fire for Thunder Bay Fire Rescue at last night’s city council meeting.

This comes as the current Chief of Fire, Greg Hankkio’s retirement was announced at the city council meeting held on December 18.

Paxton’s position is on an interim basis and the job has been posted and the recruitment of a permanent Chief of Fire is expected by Spring, 2024

It is unknown if Paxton is in the running for the full-time position.
