Thunder Bay Sign -Acadia Broadcasting Files
The Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 87 and the city of Thunder Bay have reached a tentative deal.
CUPE Local 87 represents about 600 city workers in childcare, building inspection, waste collection, and roads and parks.
The agreement still needs to be approved by the majority of represented CUPE members that voted in favour of taking strike action in December.
“CUPE employees play a vital role in providing services to the community,” said Norm Gale, City Manager. “We are extremely pleased to reach a tentative deal and subject to ratification, prevent any disruption to a number of key services to residents. It’s a credit to the bargaining teams on both sides.”
The deal is expected to be presented to city council for ratification on February 12.
