The YMCA of Greater Saint John is celebrating 170 years of service to the community with a name change.

It is being rebranded to the YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick, officials announced during a news conference on Thursday.

“This change is not just about a name; it signifies the beginning of a new and exciting chapter that I am thrilled to share with our cherished community,” said Shilo Boucher, president and CEO of the Y.

“We are greater than Greater Saint John. Our journey is just beginning, and we invite everyone to embrace this change and join us in building stronger, more inclusive communities.”

Officials said this strategic decision reflects a commitment to better represent and serve the diverse and vibrant communities spanning from Sussex to St. Stephen.

The YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick will continue providing diverse opportunities for individuals through health, fitness, recreation, licensed child care, camps, outdoor education, newcomer services, leadership development, and volunteer opportunities.
