A weekend vehicle pursuit in Winnipeg has a Wabaseemoong man facing charges.

Winnipeg police responded to a report of a man acting erratically in a vehicle on the city’s south east side around 10:20 Saturday night.

Upon arrival the driver fled from police in the vehicle, hitting a parked car in the process.

A pursuit was initiated which involved support from both airborne and canine units, however ground efforts were called off when the driver began to drive in a dangerous manner, including driving into oncoming traffic.

He later hit a second vehicle at an intersection, causing extensive damage and continued to flee.

However, with continued guidance from air support and the use of stop sticks the vehicle was disabled and stopped before officers took the 31 year old driver custody.

He faces a number of charges including:

– Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer

– Resist Peace Officer

– Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance

– Operation of a Conveyance While Impaired to Any Degree by BAC or Drug or a Combination of Both

– Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident

He has since been released via an Appearance Notice.
