d’Entremont says cap is needed on international students

By Kevin Northup Jan 16, 2024 | 12:28 PM

A Conservative MP says government needs to limit the number of international students coming to Canada.

West Nova’s Chris d’Entremont says once the students get here, many have nowhere to go.

“We have students living in cars, because they can’t find the proper kind of occupancy for them, whether it be a residence or an apartment,” said d’Entremont.

d’Entremont says there is a need for international students, but many in Canada are already struggle to find housing.

“Sons and daughters who won’t have the opportunity to find their own home, and may have to live with their parents for a long time. I don’t think it’s fair to invite these students to Canada, because we have nowhere to put them.”

He says they want to see more details from government on the issue.

The Liberals have said they are considering a cap.
