The committee examining the composition of Thunder Bay’s city council has launched a survey so the public can provide input on potential changes to the composition of council and the ward system.

The committee will be conducting public consultation in two phases.

The first phase includes discovering how the public engages and interacts with council while examining to see if there is a public desire for changes to the composition of council.

Phase two will include discussion and consultation with the public on potential options that could result in changes to council composition and/or the ward boundaries.

“We will also be popping up at various locations in the community to talk to residents face-to-face and bring the survey to those who were not able to fill it out online,” said Chair Rebecca Johnson. “The conversations we have with the community around this subject are really important and will help us form our recommendations.”

Hard copies of the survey will be available at city hall and all branches of the Thunder Bay Public Library beginning January 19 and the Thunder Bay Public Library will also have the online survey available on their public computers.

The committee will provide a report to City Council with recommended changes to the composition of council or the ward system next year.

The survey will remain open until February 4 and for more information on upcoming, in-person engagement opportunities and to take the survey click here.
