The Yarmouth Mariners needed overtime for their first win of 2024.
Michael Marquez scored his first goal since returning to the team earlier this month, as they beat Amherst 4-3 at Mariners Centre Sunday.
Marquez fired the winner home 17 seconds into the extra frame, after the Ramblers tied it with less than a minute to go in the 3rd.
The California native says it means a lot to him to be a Mariner.
“We never give up. That locker room, that logo and this town mean so much to us. To win that game, it raises our spirits up to a whole other level,” said Marquez.
Will Chisholm, Jared Pitman and Nathan Carter also scored for the Mariners, who snapped a 3-game losing streak.
Next up for the team, a rescheduled road game in Truro on Wednesday night.
The team will then host Pictou County on Friday and division-leading Summerside on Saturday night.
