Storm surge warning in effect

By Brad Perry Jan 12, 2024 | 4:32 PM

High storm surge levels and large waves could cause problems in the region on Saturday.

Environment Canada has issued a storm surge warning for areas along the Bay of Fundy.

It says water levels will exceed high astronomical tide and inundate vulnerable sections of the coastline.

Coastal flooding, beach erosion, and minor infrastructure damage are possible, particularly along south-facing coastlines of the western Bay of Fundy.

Maximum wave heights will be in the range of three to five metres, breaking upon approach to shore.

“People near the coast should monitor for worsening conditions and be prepared to move to a safer location at a moment’s notice,” said the warning.

While impacts are expected from near noon Saturday until early evening, forecasters said they will be worst near high tide in the early afternoon.
