Police officer injured during arrest of a teen in Herring Cove

A police officer was taken to hospital and a 17-year-old is facing a slew of charges, during an arrest on Herring Cove Rd.

Police say they stopped the vehicle last night around the 500 block. The vehicle was unregistered and the driver prohibited from driving.

The suspect pressed on the gas when being arrested, dragging the officer for a distance, as they were caught in the doorframe of the vehicle.

The officer was injured, and the teen ran away but was taken into custody a short time later.

They were scheduled to appear in court today to face these charges:

  • Assaulting a peace officer with a weapon
  • Aggravated assault of a peace officer
  • Operation of a conveyance while prohibited
  • Flight from peace officer
  • Operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm
  • Dangerous operation of a conveyance
  • Escaping lawful custody
  • Resisting arrest
  • Breaching the conditions of custody/supervision order
