Through a continued investigation the Thunder Bay Police Service has laid charges against a driver involved in a major collision on Oliver Road in November.

On November 30, 2023, a pickup truck and a sedan were involved in a head-on collision, and both vehicles ended up in ditches on opposite sides of the road.

Both vehicles sustained major damage, with the engine block from the sedan being ejected due to the force of the crash coming to rest in the front yard of a nearby residence.

The lone occupant of the sedan and both occupants of the pickup truck were extricated from the vehicles.

All three were taken to hospital for treatment of injuries considered serious to potentially life-threatening.

The sedan driver, a 29-year-old from Thunder Bay, is charged with two counts of impaired operation causing bodily harm, two counts of dangerous operation causing bodily harm and operation of a motor vehicle while impaired.

The accused has been released from custody with a future court appearance date.

The two occupants of the pickup truck are still in hospital with serious, life-altering injuries and face a very long road to recovery.
