Snowy Sunday in Southwestern N.S.

A big snowstorm has people in Southwestern N.S. digging out.

Environment Canada had a Winter Storm Warning in effect for Yarmouth, Shelburne, Queens and Lunenburg counties.

At least 25 centimetres was forecasted to fall through the day Sunday.

Winds also reached 80 kilometres an hour in some areas, creating the potential for snow drifts.

Snowplows and salt trucks are clearing roads, they’ll focus on major routes like highways first.

But you’re advised to take your time and use caution if you’re heading to work Monday morning.

Halifax Stanfield International Airport says the weather may impact flight schedules.

The Yarmouth Airport is reporting just over 11 centimetres of snow fell Sunday, but amounts are certainly higher inland.

In Halifax, the city says the majority of main arterials are clear and passable.

Monday Cancellations and closures:

All schools in the South Shore Regional Centre for Education are closed. Work sites will delay opening until 10 a.m.

All schools in the Tri-County Regional Centre for Education are closed. Work sites will delay opening until 10 a.m.

Schools in the CSAP in Argyle, Clare and the South Shore are closed, offices are delayed opening until 10 a.m.

NSCC campuses in Lunenburg, Yarmouth (Burridge), Shelburne and Digby campus will delay opening until 10 a.m. with the first classes at 10:30.

The Municipality of Chester will delay opening administrative offices until 10:30 a.m. to allow for clearing of roads.

Yarmouth Town Hall will delay opening until 10 a.m.

The Municipality of Yarmouth’s office in Hebron will delay opening until 10 a.m.

The Municipality of Lunenburg and the Town of Bridgewater will delay their office openings until 10 a.m.

The Municipality of Barrington will delay opening their office and facilities, including the Sandy Wickens Memorial Arena and Recreation Centre, until 10 a.m.
