TBay Tel is looking to install a new telecommunication tower in Fort Frances.

The 40-metre tower is proposed at the company’s office on Sixth Street West.

It is to enhance wireless voice and data services in the area.

Federal approval is still needed before construction begins.

The issue comes before town council this evening, although municipalities have little to no authority to prevent such towers from being
constructed.

Also on tonight’s agenda will be the Moffat Family Fund.

This year’s allocation is $103,750.

Last year, fifteen charitable programs shared a record $121,666.50 that was distributed through the town’s Moffat Family Fund Steering Committee.

Administration is asking council this year to consider the cost of administering the fund.

It suggests using 3 per cent of the fund, or $3,113, to cover the cost, or having the town do so.

The town will begin accepting applications next Monday until Friday, March 1.

The steering committee will then review the submissions and make recommendations to council by March 25 before they passed onto the Winnipeg Foundation for final approval.
