Long awaited growth expected through Dieppe extension

Mayor Yvon Lapierre says the Dieppe Boulevard extension was always a part of a vision.

$42 million in funding for phase two of the extension was announced on Friday by the three levels of government.

He says this has been a long time coming. “It’s very important. It’s an empty space right now, with over 200 acres will be open for development. It’s owned by a lot of different people, who have known for probably at least 20 years that at some point in time, this was going to happen. Of course, over the years, there has been a lot of speculation as to when it’s going to take place,” Lapierre says.

He adds, that the vision goes back to 1999, when he was first approached by Bernard Lord, who was the Premier at the time,” Everything comes with a bit of patience. And so we’re very confident that this will be a very successful growth.”

Funds will be used for infrastructure, which includes water, sewer, and the main road itself. Lapierre says anything that comes after that will come from the builders and the city.

“It’s easily $150 million of construction that’s going to take place over that over the next probably 12 to 20 years. So it’s going to grow our tax base, and it’s going to continue to grow the community and invite people to join the Dieppe experience,” Lapierre adds.
