Halifax puts parking ban in place ahead of snow storm

By Steve MacArthur Jan 7, 2024 | 4:21 PM

The city is putting the winter parking ban in place to allow crews to properly clear streets and sidewalks.

It means you can not park your ride on the side of the road between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. when the ban is in effect.

Vehicles must be parked off municipal streets during the hours noted above. Regardless of the status of an overnight winter parking ban, or whether you have received a notification, vehicles can be towed while the ban is place.

Vehicles parked on the road after storms are prone to damage and become dangerous for crews. Such obstacles prevent crews from clearing the sidewalks properly, which can quickly become an accessibility issue for pedestrians, seniors, people with mobility issues and parents pushing strollers.

Property owners are being reminded to ensure snow cleared from their driveway is not shovelled to the street or sidewalk.
