Broncos lose on ice, win in the pool

The International Falls Broncos varsity boys hockey team lost 3-1 to the Proctor Rails in a game played Saturday at Broncos Arena.

Aiden McFarland scored in the first minute of the third period after the Rails opened up a 2-0 lead after the first two.

Proctor sealed the win with their final goal less than five minutes later.

The Rails outshot the Broncos 42-13.

The Broncos’ junior varsity team also lost to Proctor, 3-0.

The Bronco boys swim and dive team was in Proctor on Friday, where both the varsity and junior varsity teams scored wins.

The varsity team finished first in all but two events, while the juniors won in all but the medley relay, where both the Broncos and the Rails were disqualified for swimmers leaving too early on the exchange.

Earning wins for the varsity team were Brendan Scholler in the 200 free and 100 backstroke, Wyatt Jantsen in the 60 free, Connor Tomczak in the 100 butterfly, Sig Ginter in the 100 free, and Max Youso in the 500 free.

Relay teams in the 160 medley, 160 free and 400 free also earned victories.

For the junior varsity team, Ashby Silvers in the 100 and 200 free, Bradley Muehring in the 60 individual medley and 60 butterfly, Chase Bragg in the 60 free, and Zack Ryan in the 100 backstroke.

The junior relay teams also won the 160 and 400 freestyle events.

On the hardwood, the Broncos varsity girls basketball team lost on Friday to North Woods 73-62.

Lola Valenzuela led the team in scoring with 21 points.

Piper Tomczak chipped in 12 points.

The junior varsity team doubled up North Woods 50-25.

Every player scored at least 2 points for the Broncos, led by Neva Kokesh, Alyana Koenig and Elle Rein, who each scored 7 points.
