Riverview Mayor looks ahead to 2024

The Mayor of Riverview is optimistic and excited about things to come for 2024.

Last year, funding from both the provincial and federal governments was announced for a new rec centre in Riverview.

Mayor Andrew Leblanc is looking forward to seeing the $40 million complex come to life this year, “I want to break ground on the recreation complex because this has been a long time coming. And so I’m very, very excited about that.”

The new centre will be built next to Mill Creek Nature Park and will include a pool, walking track, field house, and a fitness centre.

In a year-end interview, Mayor Leblanc also looked ahead to other big expectations for 2024.

“This year, our Municipal Development Plan is up for review. That’s a really important document that pairs with a zoning bylaw because it sets the ground or sets the framework for growth and development for the next decade for the town of Riverview. That’s up for renewal, and we’ll be starting that process fairly soon. I’m excited to get that off the ground.”

Leblanc adds that the community also completed an affordable housing strategy, or housing needs assessment last year, and in 2024,  they’ll be working on actions to correlate to that and see how it fits into plans.

“I’d also like to see some new opportunities created through the commercial market threshold analysis that we did as well. It outlines opportunities for business growth, where there are market gaps, and what opportunities exist there. I’m certainly hoping we can work with our business community and entrepreneurs and try to sell some of those gaps in the town this year,” Leblanc says.
