A local sports organization is honouring the loss of one of its young players.

The Moncton Minor Hockey Association will be wearing helmet stickers recognizing Tate Hughes.

According to a post on the MMHA website, five-year-old Hughes passed away suddenly on January 2nd with his family by his side.

He was a member of the U-7 Bluejays.

A GoFundMe page has also been set up for anyone who would like to support the family.

As of Thursday morning, funds had already surpassed $25,000.

There has also been an outpouring of support for the family on social media, with many expressing their condolences.
