Yarmouth Polar Bear Dip raises $2,500 for fire department

It was a cold day for a swim in Lake Milo.

The 17th annual Yarmouth Polar Bear Dip happened on New Year’s Day.

Stewart Deveau with the Yarmouth Fire Department says it’s a fundraiser for the volunteer firefighters.

“The tally is about $2,500. We had about 18 exchange students take part as well, which was a first,” said Deveau.

About 30 people participated.

Deveau says the fire department was on hand for safety.

“Members trained in water rescue with survival suits, and we had members on land. We always show up in good numbers for this event.”

He thanks the Yarmouth Polar Bear Club, Alec Pitt and Boston Pizza for sponsoring the annual event.
