Saint John police are looking for a suspect following an alleged sexual assault on New Year’s Day.

Police said the victim got a drive from a man in the Waterloo Street and Peters Street area around 4:30 a.m. on Jan. 1.

The 24-year-old was reportedly driven to the Red Head Road area by the unknown man and sexually assaulted, according to investigators.

“The victim ran to a nearby home and the residents called the police,” the police force said in a news release on Wednesday.

According to police, the victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening physical injuries and later released.

Detectives are looking for a man described as 35 to 40 years old, 5’10” to 5’11” tall with “tan” skin, a dark brown buzz cut, scruffy facial hair, and driving a newer-style silver SUV.

“Officers have been conducting canvasses; however, detectives are appealing for witnesses or anyone in the area that has dash-cam or video surveillance of the incident at the time it occurred,” said the release.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Saint John Police Force at 506-648-3333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
