Police in Saint John are hoping to bring a new records management system online this spring.

Staff Sgt. Sean Rocca, a spokesperson for the police force, described it as a major undertaking.

“Our current system was implemented I believe in 1995, so it’s been around for many years,” Rocca said in a year-end interview.

“There are some limitations to the current system and we’re hoping to realize a number of benefits from the new system.”

Rocca said the new system will allow for increased analytics, which will allow for better allocation of resources.

It is the same system used by other municipal police agencies in the province, which Rocca said will lead to better information sharing.

“It’s about upgrading our technology and coming into current practices and procedures,” he said.

Rocca said the project team is working diligently with Versaterm, the Ottawa-based company behind the cloud-based system, to complete the required configuration.

The force plans to launch the new system in May, with training expected to take place in April.

Saint John police entered into an agreement with Versaterm for the new system in March 2023.
