Record numbers for New Year’s Dorchester Polar Dip

By Tara Clow Jan 2, 2024 | 6:56 AM

A record number of participants took the plunge this year in Dorchester to help ring in the New Year.

Fifty-eight jumped into the cold waters for the 31st annual Palmers Pond Polar Dip.

This year’s dip was done in a separate pool, due to the ice not being thick enough.

Almost $1300 was raised supporting the Dorchester Fire Department and Station8 Community Hub.

The Dip was organized by the Greater Dorchester Moving Forward Co-op this year.

Unfortunately, the previous organizers, the Dorchester Lions Club folded last year due to declining numbers.

Sarah MacKay of Women of the Wilderness won the top prize for her avocado costume.
