Saint John AIM facility licence revoked

New Brunswick’s public safety minister has revoked the salvage dealer’s licence for the American Iron and Metal facility in Saint John.

Kris Austin says he reviewed responses from the task force and AIM and is not convinced that it has adequately addressed the serious concerns.

“As such, it is clear to me that it is in the public interest to revoke their licence,” said Austin.

Under Section 19 of the Salvage Dealers Licensing Act, the minister’s decision is final and cannot be appealed, but it is subject to judicial review. AIM will have 90 days to apply for a review.

The decision and task force review followed a large fire in September at the AIM’s facility located at 1 Protection Street in Saint John.

Austin’s letter to AIM is available online.
