Police seize $700k in drugs at RIDE program

Ontario Provincial Police have charged two people with drug trafficking after they were found in possession of approximately 73 lbs of methylenedioxymethamphetamine or MDMA earlier this month.

Police were conducting a RIDE program on December 15th just before 3:00 p.m. at Sistonens Corner and noticed suspected cannabis readily available to the driver of a vehicle which pulled up to the stop.

In addition to the MDMA, officers discovered 460 grams of cannabis along with other cannabis products, an Canadian currency and other items associated with the drug trade, which were seized, along with the motor vehicle.

In total the estimated value of the the illicit substances alone is approximately $700,000.

A 49 year old Vancouver man has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Other Drugs
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
  • Possession for the Purpose of Distributing
  • Drive Vehicle or Boat with Cannabis Readily Available

Meanwhile a 39 year old man from Calgary was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Other Drugs
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
  • Possession for the Purpose of Distributing

Both were being held in custody and are set to appear in court at an undisclosed date.
