Ontario Provincial Police have now charged a 45 year old Moroccan man in connection to bomb threats made against a number of institutions in Ontario, including Coseil scholaire de district catholique des Aurores boréales.

The threats were made on November 1st, which indicated bombs had been placed in various locations with a demand for money in exchange for information about the explosives.

However, no explosive materials were ever found.

A month later, Belgian authorities arrested a 45 year old Casablanca man, after similar threats were made in Belgium.

At the time of the arrest OPP had strong reason to believe there was a connection between the Belgian and Canadian threats.

Investigators with the Criminal Investigation Branch began working along with the OPP’s Cybercrime Investigations Team and Belgian Police, and obtained an arrest warrant.

The Moroccan national has been charged with:

  • Utter Threats – two counts
  • Mischief – two counts
  • Extortion – two counts

Consultations are now taking place between the OPP and the Federal Department of Justice to determine how the accused will appear before an Ontario judge.
