NB Power says it is too soon to say how long some New Brunswickers may remain without power.

The utility said more than 1,500 outages were impacting 34,300 homes and businesses as of 5 p.m. Wednesday.

That was down from the more than 100,000 customers impacted at the peak of the outages.

  • Central York/Sunbury: 16,080 customers; 686 outages
  • Charlotte/Southwest: 11,099 customers; 409 outages
  • Carleton: 4,340 customers; 170 outages
  • Kings/Queens: 1,756 customers; 92 outages
  • Victoria/Madawaska: 531 customers; 74 outages
  • Shediac/Cap-Pele: 217 customers; 43 outages
  • Sackville/Port Elgin: 140 customers; 21 outages
  • Kent: 126 customers; 28 outages
  • Kennebecasis Valley/Fundy: 62 customers; 11 outages
  • Moncton/Riverview/Dieppe: 32 customers; 13 outages
  • Northumberland/Miramichi: 4 customers; 2 outages
  • Acadian Peninsula: 3 customers, 1 outage

Nicole Poirier, vice-president of operations, said their initial focus is restoring power to critical services such as hospitals.

“Once that is complete, we will make repairs that will return service to the largest number of customers in the least amount of time, such as high-density housing and large neighbourhoods,” Poirier said on Tuesday.

Over 700 people are currently supporting restoration efforts, she said.

“For each outage, a team has to assess the damage and make the necessary repairs. In some cases, one to three vehicles are needed to make the repairs,” said Poirier.

Poirier added that crews are still in the process of assessing the many hundreds of outages.

“I would say right now, the early assessments are around damage related to trees on our infrastructure, and lines down, that would probably be the majority of our outages at this point in time.”

According to the latest estimates, it could be late Saturday night before some have their power restored. You can find the latest outage information on NB Power’s website.

Meanwhile, warming and charging centres have been set up in several communities throughout the province. You can find the full list through the Emergency Measures Organization.
