Air travel tips for the holiday season

Many New Brunswickers will be travelling over the holidays to see friends or loved ones.

The Saint John Airport is offering some tips to help make the holiday journey easier.

Lori Carle, manager of marketing, public and corporate relations, said you should arrive at least two hours before your flight is due to leave.

“One good thing about having a smaller airport is you’re like, ‘Oh well I can just breeze in through,’ but if you have international connections, keep in mind your luggage has to be tagged properly and get out to the aircraft,” Carle said in an interview.

Carle also recommends downloading your airline’s app so you can keep up-to-date with any changes or cancellations.

In addition, you can check in 24 hours before your flight to make things easier once you arrive at the airport.

If you are travelling with gifts for your loved ones, Carle said you should wait until you get to your destination before wrapping them.

“I know it would be nice to just show up at the door with this beautifully wrapped gift, but sometimes items have to be inspected during your security check, and you don’t want to have to have it all unwrapped and then have to wrap it all again,” she said.

Carle said it is also a good idea to check the forecast in Saint John and at your destination to see if you need to prepare for any potential delays or cancellations.
