A recall of a number of Tesla models dating as far back to 2012 has been issued by the federal government and the automaker, in relation to issues with the driver assistance system.
According to Transport Canada there is an increased risk of a collision if a driver doesn’t pay close enough attention while using the Autosteer feature or fails to react fast enough when the function is cancelled.
Affected models and model years are:
- Model 3 – 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023
- Model S – 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023
- Model X – 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023
- Model Y – 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023
Owners will be notified by email by Tesla and will be supplied with an over-the-air software update to improve the monitoring and alerts system.
However, the automaker advises drivers to always pay attention and be ready to take control of the vehicle at anytime while using the Autosteer.
Approximately 193,000 units, which are classified as cars and SUVs have been impacted by the recall.
