Tentative deal reached between nursing union and long-term care homes

A tentative agreement has been reached between the Nova Scotia Nurses Union and long-term care employers after talks began earlier in the fall.

The deal with affect roughly 1,100 nurses in 70 facilities.

“Our long-term care nurses work very hard, and the people in their care are like family to them. The bargaining teams’ goals were to achieve an equitable agreement, allowing nurses to be compensated fairly and respected for the work they do,” says Janet Hazelton, president of the Nurses’ Union.

The new contract addresses issues such as demand on nursing staff and wages.

The ratification vote will be held in the coming days, and once settled with be retroactive to November 1, 2020, and will expire October 31, 2025.
