RCMP safety tips for festive season gatherings

By Tara Clow Dec 14, 2023 | 11:32 AM

You may be enjoying parties and other social events with friends this festive season.

RCMP suggests being aware of your surroundings and keeping a close eye on your drink because it can only take a moment for something to be slipped into it.

If you do feel unusually unwell after drinking, or if you see something being put into someone’s drink, report it immediately to RCMP.

If you suspect that you have experienced being drugged through drink tampering, or have been sexually assaulted, please call the police to file a report.

RCMP also have these tips for drinking safely this holiday season:

• While out with friends, stay together

• Don’t accept drinks from strangers

• Never leave your drink unattended

• Watch for changes in your drink

• Don’t drink from other people’s glasses

• Have a plan for getting home

“We also want people to know that a sexual assault complaint can be made at any time, and there is no statute of limitations as to how far back the assault happened, says Cpl. Hans Ouellette, Media Relations Officer with the New Brunswick RCMP. “If you are a victim of sexual assault please contact us. You will be listened to, and you will be believed.”
