Kennebecasis Regional Police Force adds police service dog

By Regis Phillips Dec 12, 2023 | 3:00 PM

The Kennebecasis Regional Police Force has announced the addition of a Police Service Dog.

This is the first PSD/K9 Unit in the history of the police force.

PSD Sammy received his Certificate of Appointment to the Kennebecasis Regional Police Force on Nov. 23.

Sammy worked his first shift on Nov. 5 with his handler Constable Chris McLeod.

“There are so many things they’re able to do that police officers aren’t able to do on their own, such as tracking, search and rescue, detecting drugs. It’s like having a partner in the car with them all the time,” said acting deputy chief Anika Becker.

“I think any time that a police force can enhance their ability through extra training or adding a police service dog they should take the opportunity to do so.”
