Queens residents are set to receive compensation following a summer boil water advisory.

The Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board greenlit a request for reimbursement from water customers in the Region of Queens, enduring a three-month boil-water order.

The municipality sought a 70% rate reduction for one quarter of the year, as reflected in a single billing cycle. The board’s approval, dated Dec. 5, solidified this relief measure. The compensation should be reflected on the upcoming bills eligible residents receive.

The boil order originated on Aug. 9 due to damage caused by a lightning strike at the municipality’s water treatment facility. The advisory was officially lifted on Oct. 5, 2023.
