Rainy River District School board meeting, September 2023

The Rainy River District School Board has a new chair.

Alberton and LaVallee area trustee Kathyrn Pierroz was elected to serve in the position for the next year.

She replaces Atikokan’s Jeff Lehman, who held the post for the last 12 months.

“Public education has the ability to leave lasting positive impacts for generations to come, and I want to express my sincere gratitude and thanks for electing me as Chair. I’m happy to serve, and I will strive to do well,” says Pierroz.

Fort Frances area trustee Mike Walchuk takes over Pierroz’s former post as vice-chair.

Lehman will serve as the school board’s alternate representative to the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA).

Fort Frances trustee Michael Graham is the board’s main rep to OPSBA.

While school board trustees are elected every four years, the board holds elections each December for the positions of chair and vice-chair among those elected.
