Investigation into MOVEit cybersecurity breach launched

An investigation into the MOVEit cybesecurity breach has been launched.

In a release,the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OPIC) says Information and Privacy Commissioner, Tricia Ralph has initiated a review of how adequate security and information practices are with the provincial government, Nova Scotia Health and IWK. In will include their response to the breach, under the provisions of the Privacy Review Officer Act, the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Personal Health Information
Act.

In addition, 110 complaints to the OIPC, from those affected by the breach, will help further the investigation.

Over 100,000 Nova Scotians had private information stolen back in May, when the file sharing service, MOVEit was hacked.

Those who fell victim included NS Health and IWK employees, civil servants as well as 44,000 teachers.
