TPBS reports multiple recent assaults

The Thunder Bay Police Service has released updates on three assaults that occurred between December 1-4.

December 1, 2023: Axe Assault

A 45-year-old male was taken to hospital by EMS after being struck with an axe during an altercation on North Cumberland Street on the evening of December 1.

Officers located the suspect at an apartment in the 100 block of Cumberland Street.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident and transported to the police station.

A 31-year-old  was charged with aggravated assault.

They appeared in court and were remanded into custody.

December 2, 2023: Double Assault

A 19-year-old has been charged with aggravated assault, assault, and uttering threats.

Officers were dispatched to the area of the old elevator on Forest Avenue just before 11:00 p.m. on December 2, 2023, on a report of a male in need of medical attention due to an assault.

A 16-year-old male was taken to the hospital with significant injuries.

The investigation revealed that a 17-year-old female was also assaulted during this altercation.

The suspect was arrested at the scene without incident, and has appeared in court over the weekend, and was remanded into custody.

December 4, 2023: Assault #3

A 25-year-old has been charged with aggravated assault following an incident in the area of Waterloo Street & Victoria Avenue.

In the early hours of December 4, officers were dispatched to the area on a report of an assault in progress.

When officers arrived, they located a male in need of medical attention.

The male was transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre by EMS.

The suspect was taken into custody, appeared in court, and has been remanded into custody.
