Saint John police are partnering with the Kennebecasis Regional Police Force, Department of Justice and Public Safety, and MADD Saint John and Area to conduct the annual Festive R.I.D.E. campaign.

The campaign’s mission is decreasing impaired driving through education, deterrence, and enforcement in order to reduce motor vehicle collisions, injuries and deaths.

Throughout December, officers will have checkpoints and roaming patrols at various locations throughout the Saint John region and the Kennebecasis Valley.

“As the holiday season approaches and celebrations begin, please plan ahead and designate a sober driver,” said Const. Travis Jones, coordinator of the Festive R.I.D.E. campaign.

“It is our collective responsibility, police and community together, to ensure our roads are safe.”

According to MADD Canada, a total of 1,125 drivers were charged with drug and alcohol impaired driving in New Brunswick in 2021, a four per cent increase over 2020.
