Uptown Sparkles brings Christmas spirit to Saint John

By Regis Phillips Nov 29, 2023 | 12:20 PM

Uptown Saint John staff are putting the final touches on this Friday’s annual Uptown Sparkles event.

Activities such as live music, outdoor firepits, ice sculptures, and winter-friendly outdoor activities begin at 5 p.m. There is also the mayor’s tree lighting at City Hall at 6 p.m.

Many uptown shops, restaurants, and galleries offer special activities and stay open late.

“40,000 to 45,000 people walk the streets during this event. It is a lot of meandering around, seeing old friends, grabbing a drink at a local pub, getting something to eat, and really just starting to get into that Christmas mode of shopping, and supporting our local retailers,” said Nancy Tissington, executive director of Uptown Saint John.

The streets won’t be closed for the event, however, parking is free after 5 p.m.
