The Dartmouth General Hospital has received a $100-thousand gift from BMO in support of its new MRI machine.

This donation is part of the ‘Lead On’ Campaign focused on driving patient-centred innovation.

In a release, Dr. Carla Pittman says, “With state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging, we will be able to assess patients that much faster which will lead to reduced wait times and in many cases, an earlier diagnosis.”

She says this new MRI unit will have broad reaching positive outcomes for Nova Scotians.

President and CEO of the DGH Foundation, Stephen Harding says, “We applaud BMO as a community pillar and playing a key role in bringing this MRI technology to patients. This is truly a transformational project for our hospital and will have a lasting impact for patients in Central Zone and beyond.”

Construction of the new suite to house the hospital’s first MRI is underway. The unit will be lowered into the building through an opening in the roof before the end of the year.

First scans are estimated for spring 2024.
