The Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons has presented an award to a Kenora doctor.

Dr. Laura Noack was named one of six region family physicians of the year.

She was nominated for the award by her peers and was awarded for the northwest region.

One of the people who nominated her says she is a respected rural generalist in an area where her skills are urgently needed.

Her nomination also goes on to say,”to better meet the needs of her community, Dr. Noack completed a third-year postgraduate training in enhanced maternal skills. With this additional training, she provides caesarean sections, dilation and curettage procedures and provides care for patients experiencing high-risk pregnancies. She also cares for those experiencing homelessness and addiction who would otherwise have to travel to Winnipeg or Thunder Bay stay to receive this specialized care.”

The award was presented to Dr. Noack at the OCFP’s virtual Awards Ceremony on November 22.
