Coast Guard stations to close for season

Seasonal stations operated by the Canadian Coast Guard are beginning to shutdown for the winter.

The nine stations are set up along the Great Lakes, Georgian Bay and into the St. Lawrence River.

As of November 27th the station in Thunder Bay will be closed.

These stations are equipped with rescue boats which are solely designed for open-water use,

Search and rescue operations during the winter months are carried out by Canadian and United States Coast Guard ice breakers and other available vessels in the area if required.

Additionally, aircraft are also utilized as necessary.

The stations will reopen in the spring of 2024.
