TBPS traffic stop leads to weapon charge

A member of the TBPS observed a vehicle driving erratically on Walsh Street at approximately 10:45 a.m. on November 22, 2023.

The officer ran the licence plate and was advised it was a stolen vehicle, leading to a traffic stop just after 11:00 a.m.

The driver and passenger were taken into custody for being in possession of stolen property.

Officers located a shotgun shell, cash and substances believed to be cocaine and fentanyl while searching the driver.

The search of the vehicle revealed a modified shotgun in the trunk. The modification made it a prohibited weapon.

Both individuals were escorted to the Balmoral Police Station where they were lodged for a court appearance on November 23.

A 43-year-old (Driver) has been charged with:

– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000,
– Proceeds of Crime
– Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a Schedule One Substance, Cocaine
– Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a Schedule One Substance, Fentanyl,
– Careless use of Firearm
– Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
– Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm,
– Unauthorized Possession of Prohibited Weapon
– Possession of Firearm knowing it’s Possession is Unauthorized
– Unauthorized Possession of Firearm in Motor Vehicle
– Possession of Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition

A 24-year-old (Passenger) has been charged with:
– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000.00

The passenger was released with a future court while the driver was remanded into custody.
